The faces are not yet

My friend Sharon once made the joke that my worst nightmare would be just me surrounded by a slew of decisions. Maybe if I could see them face to face it wouldn't be so hard to determine which decisions were worth engaging. Maybe it'd be worse. If I had a weapon, maybe I could kill a few off. Maybe I could harness a few and fly around for a while like the Little Prince may or may not have done using a flock of birds.

Here's a work in progress that I planned out a while back.

The gaps are growing

Day 10:

I've been dealing with some family matters and getting ready for me and my wife's trip to California. There will most likely be a break in posting.

Enjoy:

The day is long

Day 8:

Nothing to see/hear.

Angelica: Would you like to hear one of my poems?
Joe Banks: Sure.
Angelica: Long ago, the delicate tangles of his hair... covered the emptiness of my hand... Would you like to hear it again?
Joe Banks: Ok.
Angelica: Long ago, the delicate tangles of his hair... covered the emptiness of my hand.

The lighting is raw

Day 7:

I watched The Future of Food today. It pretty much succeeded in making me feel angry.

I never got around to painting today. I did manage to plan out another painting, though.

I took a picture of the actual painting with a rough version of the creature included. I think a pixie or a light bulb must have flown in front of the camera right as I was taking this picture. I don't know how else to explain that big, bright spot.

The truth is out there

Day 6:

Should I be spending my time on such silliness?

The end is already

Day 5:

A couple of nights ago my wife got scissor happy on an old reading book and left me this beautiful masterpiece:

Last night I went and watched Died Young, Stayed Pretty: A Movie About Rock Posters! It had some interesting artwork in it. Screen printing is an intriguing art form to me. It has many layers. Like a tasty sandwich.

Speaking of layers, I'm tired of touching up this creature's pantaloons. I think I may be done with this one...

The way is steep

Day 4:

Today I had some interruptions. I wasn't able to work on my painting for very long, so there isn't really much for me to show. I added eyes and worked on the creature's britches a little... I'll upload pics tomorrow.

I did work on some fliers for Collective Clothing:

The past is a picture

Day 3:

Today in the library, while I was clearing up stray books and pushing in wayward chairs, I saw an elementary aged youngster completely blown away by the awesome strength of superheroes. I was never into superhero comics when I was young. The only comics I got into before college were Asterix and Obelix, Calvin and Hobbes, and The Far Side. I don't know that I'll ever geek out on Superman or the X-Men.

That having been said, I was happy to see a kid getting so much enjoyment out of a comic book. Is it silly to hope that maybe he was looking at a comic for the first time? Was I privy to a pivotal moment that will influence this kid's reading habits, activities, social interactions, and ambitions for the rest of his childhood? Young adulthood? This kid, comics, and fantastic stories til death do them part?

I have a long way to go before I can inspire children to become president and/or destroy evil. I'm still figuring out how to use a paintbrush.

As you can see below, my concept of the triad color scheme is a few shades too red in the orange department. The result is hideous. Luckily this creature doesn't have any eyes with which to witness this visual blasphemy.

Here is a computer rendition of what the creature will look like once the eyes have been painted on. The wonders of modern technology:

The question is pants

Day 2:

Before I could start painting today, I had to face my first big challenge: determining whether or not this creature would wear pants. After asking one of my roommates, calling my wife, and consulting my good friend and creature specialist, Sharon B., it was determined that, although not wearing pants out in the wilderness is a wonderful and beautiful privilege, not wearing pants while riding a dog is just silly.

This project isn't moving along as quickly as I'd like it too, but at least it's moving along.

The future is stupid

Day 1:

I've never been too disciplined when it comes to making art or music. In the past, I've generally let my level of immediate enthusiasm about a project dictate my level of creative output. When I was given a computer of my own a few years ago, my time spent browsing the internet quickly inflated itself into absurdity, and my excitement about time-consuming visual and audio projects waned. Sure, I get stoked by all the great art I find online, but for some reason it doesn't motivate me to get off the computer and create something of my own.

I have to start doing some things differently. I recently unsubscribed from most of the blogs I was reading daily. Two weeks ago I started a new job working at the downtown library. I'm trying not to waste my time. It's really hard.

I thought I could get a painting out of the way today. Oh well. I at least have a plan of action for tomorrow. It looks like this:
